Creating a Calm Space for Self-Care During Heart Health Month

The connection between Stress & Heart Health. Using Self-care to relax and meditate. Our candles can help create a stress free zone.

February is Heart Health Month — a time dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular wellness and the small, consistent habits that protect our hearts.

When we think about heart health, we often think about diet and exercise. And while those are important, there’s another powerful piece that often gets overlooked:

Stress.

The way we rest.
The way we slow down.
The way we care for ourselves emotionally.

At Mi Madre Candle Co., we believe heart health begins at home — in the quiet, intentional rituals that allow your nervous system to reset.

The Connection Between Stress & Heart Health

Chronic stress can:

  • Elevate cortisol levels

  • Increase blood pressure

  • Disrupt sleep

  • Keep the body in fight-or-flight mode

When our bodies never feel safe enough to slow down, our hearts carry that weight.

Heart Health Month is a beautiful reminder that protecting your heart isn’t only about movement — it’s also about stillness.

Self-Care Is Heart Care

Self-care doesn’t have to mean an elaborate routine or hours away from responsibility.

Sometimes it looks like:

  • Turning off your phone for 20 minutes

  • Taking a warm shower

  • Sitting quietly with your thoughts

  • Brewing tea before bed

  • Lighting a candle and letting the room soften

These small rituals send a powerful signal to your brain: you are safe. When your brain feels safe, your body begins to regulate. Blood pressure can settle. Breathing slows. Muscles release tension.

That’s heart care.

Why Light & Scent Matter

Warm candlelight reduces harsh stimulation and creates a feeling of comfort. Fragrance connects directly to the emotional center of the brain — helping anchor us in calm, nostalgia, and grounding.

Lighting a candle isn’t just about ambiance.

It’s a transition.
A shift from “doing” to “being.”
A moment where your body can exhale.

During this month, consider adding intentional calm to your daily routine — even if it’s just 15 minutes.

The 15-Minute Heart Reset

Try this simple ritual during Heart Health Month:

  1. Light your favorite 3-wick candle.

  2. Turn off overhead lights.

  3. Take five slow, intentional breaths.

  4. Sit quietly or journal.

  5. Sip something warm.

  6. Let yourself simply exist.

No multitasking.
No notifications.
No pressure.

Just you and a moment of calm.

Slowing Down with a Mi Madre Candle

Each 3-wick candle provides a fuller glow and stronger fragrance throw — transforming your room into a peaceful retreat as part your self care ritual.

Here’s how each one supports your moment of rest:

La Lavanda

A soothing lavender scent that promotes relaxation and emotional balance — ideal for winding down at night.

Sueño de Magnolia

Soft magnolia notes that feel nostalgic and comforting, like stepping into a peaceful garden at sunset.

Velvet Sea

Luxurious and grounding, Velvet Sea feels like a deep breath by the ocean — steady, calming, restorative.

Santorini Nights

Inspired by coastal evenings, this scent brings warmth and escape — helping you mentally drift away from daily stress.

Moonlit Gardenia

A soft floral glow that creates serenity and emotional comfort, perfect for quiet evenings and reflection.

A Gentle Reminder This Heart Health Month

Protecting your heart doesn’t always require dramatic changes.

Sometimes it begins with:

A flame.
A quiet room.
Permission to slow down.

At Mi Madre, we believe in honoring tradition, comfort, and the small rituals that bring us back to ourselves.

Give your heart what it truly needs — moments of peace.

Light the flame.
Slow your breath.
Care for your heart. 🤍

A Mother’s Time: Love That Lingers Like Candlelight

A heartfelt tribute to mothers in all forms—those with us, those we've lost, new moms, pet moms, and chosen moms. This post reflects on the gift of a mother’s time, the power of unconditional love, and the special memories that linger long after they're gone—all through the warm, symbolic glow of a candle. I

There’s something timeless about a mother’s love. Whether she raised you from birth, stepped in later in life, loved you like her own, or nurtured a pet, her love isn’t measured by biology, but by presence, care, and time.

The best moms don’t just give us their love—they give us their time. They are generous, patient, and wholehearted. They spend time listening when we don’t have the words, cheering us on when we doubt ourselves, and simply being there, even when they are tired and life is demanding.

I think about my mom often. She was sassy and vibrant, full of personality that made everyone around her laugh. She loved life, but always on her terms. She spoke her mind, danced to her rhythm, and showed love in the most real, raw, and genuine ways. She’d tease you one moment and laugh it off the next. That was her way—fierce and loving all at once.

She wasn’t one to sugarcoat things, but you never had to question where you stood with her. She cared deeply. She gave her time freely, always wanting us to come together to celebrate. To her, this is what made life memorable, and she could make even ordinary moments feel like something worth remembering.  Her love was unconditional and provided comfort, illuminating even the darkest moments of our lives. Much like the soft glow of a lit candle, she brought light, tranquility, and love into our home, reminding us that even in tough times, we could find peace and solace in each other. That is what I learned from my mom and what I have passed down to my son.

Since she passed, I’ve come to see time so differently. Time is the thread that ties love and memory together. And when someone you love is gone, you realize how each second spent with them was a gift. Lighting a candle has become one of the ways I feel close to her. It’s a quiet ritual. A soft flame that reminds me: she’s still with me.

Candles remind me of all mommas—burning with quiet strength, filling a room with warmth and calm. Whether it’s the tender exhaustion of a new mom, the loyal care of a pet mom, the strength of someone who mothers others without the title, or the memory of a mom who is no longer here, this kind of love deserves to be honored.

Every candle I create embodies love and connection. It goes beyond mere fragrance or wax; it represents presence and time. It's about honoring those who show up for us with their whole hearts. My mother-in-law was like a second mom to me, loving with her whole heart, and she consistently showed up for our family in both big and small ways. A true warrior, she fought her illness with incredible strength, and even in her darkest days, there was still love behind her eyes. In her way, her candle continues to shine brightly.

Candles can illuminate the path to cherished memories and help find peace in quiet moments. At least, that’s how it is for me. I hope candles provide you with the same feelings as well.

To all moms, Happy Mother’s Day. You are the light in our lives. And in every slow-burning flame, we honor you.
